Sedimentary rocks are one of the three main rock groups (the other two being igneous and metamorphic).

Formation[edit | edit source]

Sedimentary rocks are formed by many layers of sediment building up over time. Eventually, the pressure builds up and causes the sediment to be compressed into rocks.

Types of Sedimentary Rock[edit | edit source]

Common examples of sedimentary rock are chalk, limestone and sandstone.
