Water Purification is needed to protect against water bourne infections such as cholera.

Chlorine[edit | edit source]

Chlorine is used as it removes almost all the pathogens in the water. However, the water is flavoured very strongly.

Iodine[edit | edit source]

This is not as effective as chlorine, however, it does not flavour the water as much.

Filtration[edit | edit source]

This provides immediate access to drinking water with no bad taste. However, it can be contaminated and very small viruses can get through.

Carbon[edit | edit source]

Carbon is added to remove odours.
